“The National Urban Design Awards recognize that architecture and urban design impact society and enriches our lives and stand as clear evidence that Architecture matters,” said Architecture Canada | RAIC president David Craddock, FRAIC. “We are proud to celebrate the range of projects from communities across Canada and the calibre of this year’s award recipients.”
“Creating vibrant communities is at the core of what we do,” Andrea Gabor FCIP RPP, CIP president. “The Canadian Institute of Planners knows good urban design is essential; and that beautiful urban design is inspirational. This year’s winners are a shining example of the excellence of both – congratulations to all!”
According to Liane McKenna, MBCSLA, FCSLA, CSLA president, “The 2012 National Urban Design Awards highlight the vital role played by the design community in building lively, safe and sustainable cities. Each project shows how our public life and urban spaces enhance our lives and how dramatic changes can emphasize their excellence.”
The National Urban Design Awards are part of a two-tier program held in co-operation with major metropolitan centres in Canada. Recipients are previous year’s winners from participating municipalities, such as Toronto, Mississauga, Calgary, Edmonton, Vaughan and Ottawa, as well as submissions from other communities in Canada.
The Awards will be presented at an award ceremony held during IIDEX NEOCON Canada Sept. 21, 2012 in Toronto.
