Alterra introduces new penthouse suites in Toronto’s Bedford neighbourhood

A new nine-storey condo project consisting solely of 18 high-end penthouses is coming to Toronto’s Bedford neighbourhood.

Designed by Giannone Petricone Associates, suites at the 321 Davenport by Alterra building begin at $2,5 million with floorplans that range up to 4,000 sq. ft. Giannone Petricone Associates designed a minimalist and smooth, glass façade that moulds itself along the curvilinear road on which it sits.

“321 Davenport embraces the gentle density of the Bedford neighbourhood and is simultaneously a powerhouse in design. The entire private residence is influenced by the neighbourhood’s grace and is rooted in authentic craftsmanship. This is truly a unique residence unlike anywhere else in Toronto,” says Mary Medunic, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing at Alterra.

Dense tree cover and lavish landscaping seamlessly knit with the aesthetic of neighbouring backyards.
Expansive suites feature dynamic multi-directional views, offering an abundance of natural daylight and sparkling city lights through all sides of private residences.

The lushness of the exterior is translated indoors through every surface by design firm U31. An intimate marble lobby with a curved concierge desk made entirely of natural stone establishes the high-design calibre carried throughout the rest of the building.

“There was thoughtful attention to function and details to create unexpected moments, as well as an overall harmonious vision for this boutique residence. The juxtaposition of light, airy spaces combined with rich satin brass accents and a multi-layering palette of creams, metals and warm woods translates to an understated yet opulent environment,” says Kelly Cray, Principal at U31.

Ensuring the privacy and security of a single-family home, construction will include acoustically-treated walls and flooring, solid concrete block party walls for sound insulation and added security, and multiple heating and cooling zones throughout each residence.

At Alterra, we are meticulously involved in every detail of our developments, from our own designer-level finishes to ensuring acoustical privacy,” says Medunic. “We intimately understand the exceptionally high standards of our residents.”

Impressive design…..but what about considerations for the prevention of vertical fire spread between floors in this situation where the entire facade is in glass and the spandrels between floors are minimal….a potential disaster in waiting?
