Enermodal wins two NAIOP REX Awards

Two Toronto buildings – RBC Center and 25 York Street – that Enermodal Engineering performed LEED consulting on won NAIOP REX (Real Estate Excellence) Awards. RBC won Green Development of the Year, while 25 York Street was awarded Office Development of the Year. “We are proud of the contribution of both RBC Center and 25 York Street to the downtown Toronto portfolio of green developments,” says Stephen Carpenter, president of Enermodal Engineering. “These two projects show that LEED can be applied to any building from small offices to manufacturing plants to urban towers.”

Aiming for LEED-CS (Core and Shell) Gold certification, 50-storey RBC Center is set to be the largest LEED certified building in Canada. Developed by Cadillac Fairview and designed by Bregman + Hamann Architects, the facility features lake water cooling (cold water from the bottom of Lake Ontario is used to cool air instead of traditional air conditioning), high performance windows, daylighting and occupancy sensors, and variable speed drives on all fans and pumps. The building is expected to use 48 per cent less water than a conventional building thanks to features such as low-flow fixtures and a rainwater cistern for toilet flushing.

Also a tenanted office tower, 25 York Street is aiming for LEED-CS Gold certification. In addition to LEED, Enermodal performed commissioning and building performance monitoring for this Menkes owned and Adamson Associates Architects designed building. Some of the green features include a combination white/reflective and green roof, a rainwater cistern, underfloor air distribution, and demand-controlled ventilation.
