22-storey office tower planned for GM Place

VANCOUVER – The northwest corner of General Motors Place, home of the Vancouver Canucks, will soon be the site of a new 22-storey landmark commercial tower designed by Vancouver-based Busby Perkins + Will that will feature the latest in green building design.

Among the tower’s sustainable features will be exceptional energy performance and a carbon-neutral environment, created by using energy synergies between the tower and GM Place. For instance, the office tower will use part of GM Place’s underground parking, which is used mostly at night, and heating and cooling systems between the two buildings will work together with, among other things, waste heat from one building used to heat the other.

When completed, the 311,738-sq.-ft. tower will provide unobstructed views to the north and east. As the only AAA office tower located on the eastern half of Vancouver’s central business district, it will provide much-needed office space for a market that is second only to Calgary when it comes to low vacancy and high rental rates. The project will also anchor the south end of Georgia Street and help connect the downtown core to residential developments at the east end of False Creek.
