$350 million development reshaping Markham

MARKHAM, Ontario – Bayview Development Summit of Thornhill, Ontario has announced a $350-million redevelopment of the Thornhill shopping centre near Markham. The 18- acre redevelopment, called Markhamgate Summit, will be a mixed-use retail, office and residential community.

Markhamgate Summit, which is currently pending town approval, will include seven condominium buildings ranging from 10 to 32 storeys. The buildings will offer 2,100 condo units with 5,200 residents expected. The redevelopment will also include over 235,000 square feet of retail and office space.

Markhamgate Summit is being designed as a pedestrian-friendly development which will decrease dependence on cars by having an open “main street” for shopping and dining as opposed to the more common suburban enclosed mall. Construction is slated to begin in 2010 with the entire redevelopment complete in 10 years.
