Edmonton mall gets bigger

EDMONTON – Montreal-based Ivanhoe Cambridge has begun a $108-million expansion and redevelopment of the Southgate Centre shopping mall in Edmonton. The project will add significant retail space to Southgate, most of which will be located in a new 155,000-sq.-ft. free-standing building. The exterior of the building will incorporate modern finishes, including brick, metal cladding, and glass.

The shopping mall’s interior will include a new colour scheme, marble tiles and washroom facilities upgraded to hotel-quality standards. Construction is expected to be completed in 2009. Once completed, Southgate will be home to more than 30 upscale fashion-focused retailers.
