Introducing the Saputo Stadium

MONTREAL — The RIO, Montreal’s Olympic park, together with Zinno-Zappitelli Architects and Broccolini Construction, both of Montreal, have announced plans for the Saputo Stadium, a new soccer stadium being developed for the Montreal Impact soccer team. The Saputo family, who made their fortune in the dairy manufacturing industry, donated $7.5 million of the total $15 million required to build the stadium which bears their name.

Both the stadium and a practice field will be located at the Olympic Park with construction scheduled to begin in April to accommodate the start of the Impact’s 2008 soccer season.

The 13,000-seat stadium, specifically designed for soccer, will be able to accommodate up to 17,000 seats when needed, and will also welcome other soccer events, whether on a regional, provincial, national or international level.

“We are very pleased with this agreement, which is not only great news for the Impact, but for all soccer fans in Quebec,” declared the Montreal Impact President Joey Saputo.
