Giffels Corporation expands into western Canada (April 12, 2010)
The Ingenium Group of companies has purchased of Westpro Constructors Group Ltd. of Surrey, B.C. This acquisition will merge Westpro with Ingenium’s construction division, comprising Giffels Corporation, Giffels Infrastructure Inc., Giffels Partnership Solutions and Design & Construction Giffels Québec Inc. The company will operate as Westpro Infrastructure Ltd. to undertake transportation and infrastructure projects and will provide management support for Giffels ongoing activities with institutional and commercial buildings in Western Canada.
Westpro was established in 1993 as the B.C. division of a large multi-national construction group and was subsequently acquired by its management team, headed by Joel Nauss. Westpro quickly became an innovative and profitable mid-sized construction company, with a core employee group of just fewer than 50, expanding to 100 or more based on project volume. Over the past five years, Westpro has successfully completed dozens of projects ranging in size up to $20 million with average annual volumes of approximately $40 million. Recent projects include: WestCoast Express Rail Stations for British Columbia Transit; Norrish Creek Water Treatment Plant in the Fraser Valley Regional District; Vancouver Wharves Ltd. Berth 4/5 Redevelopment; National Research Council Institute for Fuel Cell Innovation at the UBC Campus; Coquitlam River Elementary School and various projects at Vancouver International Airport.
“The Westpro team is extremely happy to have joined the Ingenium family,” stated Joel Nauss, president, Westpro Constructors Group Ltd. “We think this a perfect match of our two companies and with the established contacts, clients and project history that we have in Western Canada, the Giffels and Westpro brands will become well known in a very short time. This merger gives us the ability to expand our business, resources and corporate profile across Canada and allows us to provide new areas of expertise to support our clients.” Already, Giffels and Westpro enjoy a successful working relationship on a significant B.C. project, the Alouette Correctional Centre for Women.
