LEMAYMICHAUD wins 3 awards at the Grands Prix Du Design gala
Architecture and design firm LEMAYMICHAUD received three prizes at the 13th Grands Prix Du Design gala. The firm was honored with the Project Of The Year award for the Stom Spa Vieux-Québec, an Accommodation Establishment Award, and Ferdie Student Award.
The Grands Prix Du Design Award jury reviewed more than 500 projects that showcase the talent of Québec architects and designers in one of the most prestigious awards gala of the industry.
Strøm Spa Vieux-Québec – Award – Project of the year
After receiving a Prix d’excellence en architecture from OAQ, a Hotel & Property Awards and an A+ Award from Architizer, the Strøm Spa Vieux-Québec received recognition for a fourth and fifth time by industry experts.
Right from the exploratory and development phase of the project, the first source of inspiration was the St. Lawrence River. The footprint of the old harbour wharves that once formed the banks at the shorefront, creating volumes alternating between full and empty, inspired the layout of the installations. This fragmentation allows the presentation of different thermal zones, each developed to offer sensory universes, linked together to form a complete experiential journey.
Residence Inn Calgary by Marriott – Award — Accommodation Establishment
Calgary’s Residence Inn by Marriott, the largest hotel of the brand in North America, has 390 guestrooms that spreads over a 35-storey tower built above a building that previously housed the Alberta Boot Company, a cowboy boot factory still in operation today. The whole design of the hotel was inspired by the factory, from boot-stitching patterns in the guest rooms to old advertisements in the lobby.
Maude Hébert – and Ferdie Student Award
Maude Hébert, LEMAYMICHAUD’s interior designer and employee for the past two years, was awarded the Ferdie Student Award for her project: Insieme. The award highlights the excellence of Québec’s design student projects.
