Sustainability Roundtable Inc. names Brookfield Office Properties 2010 Outstanding Landlord of the Year

Sustainability Roundtable, Inc., a firm responsible for shared-cost research and consulting on best practices in more sustainable business, announced the winner of its “Sustainable Corporate Real Estate Roundtable’s Outstanding Landlord of the Year 2010,” recognizing Brookfield Office Properties for its leadership in sustainability and energy optimization programs.

A publicly traded, international commercial real estate corporation, Brookfield Office Properties owns, manages and develops properties throughout North America and Australia, with assets located in these continents’ most dynamic and resilient markets. Brookfield’s signature properties define the skylines of such signature locales as New York, Washington, D.C., Houston, Los Angeles, Toronto, Calgary, Sydney and Melbourne.

“Brookfield Properties is helping to set the standard for excellence in the move to more sustainable buildings at the most impactful, portfolio-wide level,” said Jim Boyle, CEO of SR Inc. “Brookfield’s industry-leading efforts go far beyond any single building to include ENERGY STAR certification on 80 per cent of their properties, as well as LEED certification on sixteen properties by the U.S. and Canadian Green Building Councils.”

“We have made a substantial push over the last few years to green our portfolio and assume an industry-leader role,” said Dan Kindbergh, SVP of Operations for Brookfield. “These measures include instituting energy-reducing systems and programs to achieve LEED and ENERGY STAR at our properties, as well as proactively reporting our greenhouse gas emissions to the Carbon Disclosure Project.”
